An Eastchester police officer was hospitalized after being struck by an out-of-control SUV Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say the driver of the SUV hit three cars on Dempsey Place before turning right onto Main Street and barreling into the officer, who was directing traffic during the town's annual Columbus Day Parade.
The SUV was carrying the banner for the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club as part of the parade.
The police officer was taken to Westchester Medical Center with minor injuries.
Witnesses say the SUV driver received treatment from paramedics at the scene. His condition is unknown.
The incident delayed the start of the parade and prompted its route to be altered.
