Parents in the East Ramapo schools spoke out at this week's board meeting with concerns about students due to a Trump administration order that now allows ICE enforcement in schools and churches.
"I would like to know the steps the district is going to take to protect our kids in our school," asked one parent.
"Nobody has the right to come in and remove any of our kids," said interim Superintendent of Schools Anthony DiCarlo. "Now, on the outside of school, that's another question in regards to your local authorities, right?"
Earlier this month, the governor and Attorney General's Office, as well as the state Education Department issued guidance to schools about the rights of students, including noncitizens.
It outlined policies like enrollment, collecting student information, and law enforcement actions or removal of students from the property.
Despite these concerns, an East Ramapo school district spokesperson tells News 12 that student attendance has been normal this week.
