The Chequit on Shelter Island was built more than 150 years ago and was used by a church to serve lunches to summer visitors.
Stacey Soloviev's family bought the inn and quickly realized it needed massive renovations. All of the rooms inside the inn have been refurbished. The remodeled lobby is more like a large living room complete with a bookcase.
All local books, artists, history," says Soloviev. "And then I wanted to have a reading nook. So, I was really trying to have a place where people can talk, gather, and you can play chess."
The outdoor area has a porch where you can just hang out. There's also a patio where you can have a full meal.
"I love being outside and to come down the porch. I wanted those moments of the fire bowls," says Soloviev. "And then to go under the tree, to be under the tree and just the movements of going down."
The inn has an indoor restaurant - The Tavern - that serves local fish, steak and burgers. The chef also makes his own pasta and there's a sushi bar.
Soloviev says on the weekend she loves to watch everyone sitting outside, walking around and hanging by the fire pits.
