Community Board 7 has a new community manager.
Dustin Engelken, 27, has been a board member for the past year and has experience working with Councilwoman Annabelle Palma and former Council Speaker Christine Quinn. As the new community manager, Engelken says it's his job to know everything going on with his community and make sure it is getting what it needs.
Community Board 7 has about 150,000 residents and 40 board members and covers a large section of the Bronx.
Engelken says it's an exciting time for his area, especially with a great deal of construction and change happening on Webster Avenue. Engelken says the change is positive, although some old businesses were bought out to make way for new apartments.
"As part of that rezoning effort, we have a plan for 430,000 feet of commercial space...and nearly 1,000 apartment units," says Engelken. "You can already see some of that development occurring across Webster Avenue, but it's going to be much more in the coming years."
Community Board 7 also oversees the Kingsbridge Armory area, where Engleken says a guiding committee will soon be formed to make sure the money promised through the Community Benefits Agreement is spent in a proper way.
