A World War II "Rosie the Riveter" celebrated her 95th birthday over the weekend in Orange County.
Dorothy Koziak had a birthday to remember Saturday in Highland Falls with a drive-by parade due to the COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings.
The 95-year-old says the crisis is reminiscent of her early adulthood years when she made airplane parts during World War II, at a time when women were called to duty and everyone pitched to make a difference.
“I remember people giving up the wrought iron fences in front of their houses because the metal was needed for airplanes, bombs, jeeps and what have you. Everybody sacrificed," she says.
Koziak says it's important to remember that despite the current sacrifices, this crisis, like World War II, is something we will get through.
