Dozens came together in Mount Vernon on Tuesday to walk and encourage the community to end gun violence.

"Put the guns down. Let's talk it out,” says Gorham Valentine, with Mount Vernon SNUG.

Dozens agree with that message and are demanding change.

"We once were part of the problem so now we have to be part of the solution to make change,” says Visent Jackson, with the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester.

The Youth Shelter Program of Westchester and Mount Vernon SNUG hosted this peace walk Tuesday afternoon. They walked the streets, chanted and called for change.

For many at the peace walk, this is personal.

"My nephew was 18 years old,” says Diana Sparrow, a participant of the peace walk. "We need to stop. We need to bring these guns down."

Some people say although it won't bring back their loved ones, it's all about making change for the future.

"My cousin was a good, good person so it's very devastating,” says Tameika Brown, a Mount Vernon resident. "It hurts. But when it's actually you, it's a different feeling.”

The Youth Shelter Program of Westchester and SNUG emphasized the importance of standing together against gun violence.

"We got to bring it together, make it safer for the young people,” says Jackson.
