The cold blustery weather is being blamed for a transformer fire that knocked out power and closed a busy road in Rockland County overnight.
Fire officials say gusty winds knocked a tree over, which sparked a transformer fire on Route 303 in Blauvelt. The transformer fire also caused a small brush fire that was quickly put out by firefighters.
Route 303 was been closed between Bradley Parkway and Erie Street for most of the morning as crew made repairs and cleaned up the damage.
Residents in the area were without power for a short while, but utility officials say electricity has been fully restored.
