There is controversy in Putnam County following a $12 million settlement involving an alleged murderer and rapist.
Anthony DiPippo was convicted twice of raping and murdering a 12-year-old girl. He was then acquitted in 2016 after a third trial.
DiPippo filed a federal civil rights violation lawsuit against the county and just received a $12 million out-of-court settlement.
Putnam County District Attorney Robert V. Tendy is now condemning this decision, calling the settlement “incomprehensible.”
Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell fired back, releasing a statement that says, in part, "that the DA failed to do his job effectively....he cannot then blame myself or the legislature for doing ours."
The DA firing back saying, "The county executive's response shows a complete lack of understanding of the legal system as well as ignorance of this case."
