$100K awarded for reconstruction of historic Ward Reservation Pound Ridge fire tower

Sen. Peter Harckman recently secured $100,000 in state funding to build a new modern reconstruction of the historic old fire tower on Cross River on the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Westchester County.

After nearly four decades of service to the community, the state decommissioned the beloved fire tower in 1971 and it was torn down almost ten years later.

Resident Tom Cohn was disappointed when the fire tower was torn down. He says a hike up the old fire tower was once a highlight of his day.

Now over four decades later, hikers in the Westchester County park can soon take in spectacular views of the Long Island Sound with a restored fire tower.

They are now in the design stage of the restoration project. It could still be a few years before people are hiking up the new fire tower.
