Two dogs seen in a disturbing viral video tied to the back of a moving car in New York City have made remarkable recoveries and are now looking for new homes.

The animals, now called Marley and Miss Noogie, have spent months in the care of the ASPCA after they were rescued earlier this year. The dogs eventually came to the ASPCA Recovery & Rehabilitation Center in Pawling, where specialists work with animals rescued from suspected cruelty and neglect.

The original video, posted in January, showed the two dogs tethered to the back of a moving car and running behind it on a busy street in Long Island City.

The dogs’ former owner, 68-year-old Dan Bujor of Queens, was later arrested and pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty and other charges. Prosecutors allege he tied the dogs’ leashes to the trunk of his car and drove while they ran behind it. News 12 has reached out to the Queens District Attorney’s Office for an update on the criminal case.

ASPCA officials say animals involved in cruelty cases can remain in their care while the legal process plays out.

“The Recovery & Rehabilitation Center was designed specifically to work collaboratively with behavior and medical [teams] and rehabilitate them to be adoptable animals,” said Dr. Joy Keaton, senior director of veterinary services at the ASPCA Recovery & Rehabilitation Center.

Keaton said that can be particularly important when animals are tied up in lengthy court proceedings.

“It’s a lengthy process, and dogs need someplace that is calm and interactive with specialized care during that recovery,” Keaton said. “Until the court case is resolved, then we look for homes for them. These two are a perfect example of that.”

Today, both dogs are ready for that next chapter.

Miss Noogie is a spayed female mastiff mix believed to be 4 to 5 years old and weighing more than 75 pounds. She has spent the past six months living with foster caregiver Vicki Reinach.

“She’s come such a long way in the six months since I’ve had her,” Reinach said. “She’s been through so much, but she’s such a great dog. She’s so resilient.”

Despite what happened to her, Reinach says Miss Noogie still enjoys something that might surprise people: getting into a car.

“She’s a great dog. She loves people and, despite what happened to her, she loves riding in the car and she’s great on a leash,” Reinach said. “She really is easy. I think she just needs to be with somebody.”

Marley is a German shepherd believed to be 2 to 3 years old. The ASPCA says she arrived with fear and anxiety and received specialized behavioral rehabilitation to prepare her for adoption. She has made significant progress and is now described as calm and comfortable around other dogs.

The Pawling center opened in late 2025 as part of the ASPCA’s work with the NYPD. Animals rescued from suspected cruelty in New York City can first receive medical and veterinary forensic care in Manhattan before being transferred to the Hudson Valley facility for longer-term rehabilitation.

“The ASPCA has a very strong partnership with the NYPD in New York City, and we deal with a lot of animals that are victims of cruelty or neglect,” Keaton said. “Part of that is they go to our facility in Manhattan and receive medical care, forensic care, and then have the opportunity to come to this facility.”

Anyone interested in adopting Marley or Miss Noogie can learn more and apply through the ASPCA.
