Dewitt Clinton High School hosted its first annual D.I.V.A.S. Conference Saturday in hopes of inspiring girls in the borough to embrace sisterhood.
D.I.V.A.S. (diverse intelligent virtuous ambitious sisters) organized a day of workshops for females. More than 400 girls from the Bronx attended.
The program stressed themes such as female independence and internal beauty. Organizers say their goal is to teach girls to accept themselves.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for all of them to see that there is a sisterhood that we're creating, and it's a new movement," says Danielle Grant. "It's exciting and it's powerful, and they are a part of that."
D.I.V.A.S., an all-girl sorority, was established in 2003.
