An investigator said he was just following his training when he administered a polygraph test to a man who was subsequently wrongly convicted of murder.
Former Putnam County Detective Daniel Stephens was questioned on the stand Thursday in White Plains Federal Court for three hours, accused of threatening Jeffrey Deskovic to coerce his confession.
Deskovic was just 16 years old when he was charged with the murder of Peekskill High School student Andrea Correa.
Deskovic's attorney says Stephens pushed his client so far that he confessed to raping and murdering his classmate even though he was innocent.
"We're accusing you of ruining a man's life by using this polygraph," he said.
Stephens testified he was only following procedures when he conducted the six-hour interview with Deskovic that resulted in his conviction 25 years ago.
Stephens will be back on the stand Friday.
