While many businesses in the Hudson Valley are struggling to stay open, some entrepreneurs have been willing to take a chance on a new venture.
According to the Westchester County clerk, more than 3,700 new businesses were launched in the county last year. While that's down from the more than 4,000 that were started in 2007, officials say the number is still significant.
The county clerk's office is predicting the number will return to about 4,000 in 2009.
In White Plains, the Apogee Pilates and Wellness Center opened its flagship store Wednesday on Mamaroneck Avenue. The center's co-founder believes the business can thrive despite the floundering economy.
