Despite a court ruling that made the 99th Assembly District election a three-way race, Republican Greg Ball pulled out a win.

Ball defeated Democrat Ken Harper and the incumbent Republican Willis Stephens, who was forced back onto the ballot by a court ruling. Stephens dropped out of the race after losing the primary to Ball. At the last minute, a court challenge by Democrats put Stephens? name back on the Conservative and Independent party tickets.

Ball feared this would hurt his chances and said he would call for a special election regardless of the outcome. He claimed the court ruling that put Stephens back on the ballot was illegal. However, Wednesday after declaring his victory with 51 percent of the vote, he was less definite about calling for that special election.
