The Democrats cruised to victory in statewide elections this year in New York.Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) will become the state's next governor in January. The current attorney general trounced his Republican opponent John Faso, capturing 70 percent of the vote.In the race for State Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) was victorious over former Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro. Cuomo, who received 58 percent of the vote, was joined on stage by his family members Tuesday night. His father is former New York State Governor Mario Cuomo.Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) easily secured a second term by defeating former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer. Clinton received more than twice as many votes as her opponent.Alan Hevesi (D-NY) was also able to claim victory despite the ethics scandal that threatens his political career. The state comptroller thanked his supporters and continued to apologize for using a state employee to drive his sick wife at the expense of taxpayers. Hevesi defeated Chris Callaghan of Saratoga County.Related Information
