It was a rough ride for drivers on the Tappan Zee Bridge after metal debris flew off a truck and damaged other vehicles.
Police say a truck crossing the bridge at around 5:30 a.m. dropped metal rods along the span.
Riding over the metal rods caused damage to seven vehicles, including a tractor-trailer. Investigators say the metal actually pierced gas tanks of a truck and other cars.
Diesel fuel spilled across the bridge to just before the Tarrytown tolls and into the Hudson River. The DEC and US Coast Guard were contacted as the cleanup efforts got underway.
