Community leaders who support Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis are calling on the U.S. attorney general to immediately investigate the timing of a federal probe at City Hall. Many of Davis' supporters are convinced the FBI raid on City Hall just three weeks before Election Day was designed to scare his supporters from the polls.
FBI agents walked out of City Hall with hundreds of financial documents connected with possible mob-connected carting contracts on Oct. 11. Another probe involves the city?s Urban Renewal Agency. Both focus on activity under the mayor?s leadership.
Westchester County Executive Andy Spano pushed Democrats to unify and elect primary winner Clinton Young. Young called Tuesday?s press conference a desperate attempt to defer attention away from the federal probe, which focuses on the mayor.
