Rockland County law enforcement officials say they have broken up a major drug dealing operation.
Rockland County District Attorney Tom Zugibe says the Rockland County Drug Task Force and other police agencies have rounded up 19 suspected drug dealers after a three-month undercover crackdown. The suspects, who range in age from 21 to 48, are charged with selling various drugs including crack, oxycodone and heroin to undercover police officers.
As part of the sweep, the Rockland County Drug Task Force focused on several locations in the towns of Haverstraw, Clarkstown, Orangetown and Ramapo, including downtown areas in the villages of Nyack, Spring Valley and Haverstraw.
Among those charged is Sammy Fodor, 23, of Suffern, who was also accused last week with running a meth lab at his home.
Zugibe says they are starting with street peddlers, but the crackdown is aimed at cutting off the flow of drugs. "This means huge profits for drug dealers, all at the expense of the young people in the county. And it fuels violent crime"
Zugibe says investigators are now working on identifying and charging others who are higher up on the illegal drug supply chain.
