Parents in Croton voiced their concerns Monday about vape shops opening up in their village.

An informational session about the dangers of vaping was held at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School.

The tobacco-less form of smoking, otherwise known as vaping, is a growing trend around the Hudson Valley, but many municipalities are putting some restrictions on where e-cigarettes can be sold.

Janine King, village manager for Croton-on-Hudson, says village lawmakers are beginning discussions on how to regulate vape shops because parents have expressed concerns about a store on Maple Avenue that is near a middle school. "Smoke, Tobacco and Cigars" has been approved and will open in a few weeks.

Several municipalities throughout Westchester have already passed resolutions stating vape shops can't be within 500 feet of churches or schools. Legislation wouldn't impact the location of vape shops that already exist.

Some people who shop near the store tell News 12 they’re OK with its location.

“It's a person's choice whether they do it or not, it's not up to me,” says Susan Zuckerman.

The village approved an application to open the shop as long as the owner tints the windows. Future vaping business in the village remains unknown.
