A deli and catering company is temporarily closed after a car smashed through its storefront.

Carmel Police say the crash happened at around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening causing damage to the deli's storefront.

Police say an 18-year-old Mahopac resident driving a Jeep attempted a left turn into the deli parking lot when he struck a Toyota being operated by a 61-year-old male traveling on Route 6.

The accident caused the Toyota to strike the building, causing extensive damage to deli.

Denise Russell, who runs the deli with her husband James, says the closure this time of year is a serious blow.

"It's a financial hit...My husband and I are here together. This is our only source of income....We have to suspend our paychecks and stuff like that," said Denise Russell.

Amidst the holiday season, the couple are pausing their catering orders until further notice.

Their three additional staff members are also now temporarily unemployed.

Carmel police say the 18-year-old was transported to a hospital for evaluation and was issued a summons on scene for failure to yield to the right of way.

Crossroads Deli & Catering hopes to reopen as soon as possible and thanks everyone in the community for their support.
