Weather To Watch: Rain and wind could impact your Memorial Day weekend plans

The entire holiday weekend won't be a washout but a large portion of it will not involve "beach/pool/BBQ weather"

Ready, set, let's go! We're going "full steam ahead" into the "unofficial start to Summer" with the Memorial Day weekend coming around soon! Ideally, we want the weather to be optimum to enjoy diving into the pool, heading to the beach, firing up the grill and just enjoy some time outside with friends and loved ones. Sadly, we won't be able to do that through much of the weekend with a system bringing rain and wind to the region.

The rain arrives by the late morning hours on Saturday with rounds of showers moving throughout the region for the rest of the day. Breezy to gusty winds will pick up, especially off the Long Island Sound. Overnight, however, several rounds of moderate to heavy rain come through. There could be some briefly lowered visibility during that time as well as some ponding on the roadways. Widespread flooding is not expected but localized flood concerns may start to develop, especially in low-lying areas.

The heavier rain will break down heading into the midday Sunday hours, with scattered showers to linger and follow. Gusty winds will come from time to time for Sunday as the showers taper off. Memorial Day itself will be drier, especially by comparison to the rest of the weekend, but we should still be on guard for some passing showers possible midday. At least the temperatures on Monday will be milder, with highs near normal levels.

More ideal weather moves in after Monday, with temps on the rise into the 70s and 80s, along with fair skies.
