Students celebrated cultural diversity at a charter school event in Yonkers as The Charter School for Educational Excellence hosted its third annual International Night.

The event featured music, food, art and fashion from different cultures.

Executive Director Danielle Rendina said students from kindergarten through 12th grade created projects representing their backgrounds.

“Most of our students…did projects that represent their culture,” Rendina said.

Students shared personal work tied to their heritage during the event.

“This is my project. This is part of Black history,” said student Jeremiah.

Parents say the experience helps children better understand and embrace their culture.

“When you actually have to talk about it… it gives that child a lot more knowledge,” said parent Angela Young-Jones.

Student artists also displayed their work and connected with others at the event.

“I’m trying to make my presence known in the art community,” said student Maximus.

Parents say the celebration highlights the school’s diversity and creates a welcoming environment.
