Overall, crime in the state's fourth largest city is down by 6 percent. Murders were down 40 percent and rapes are down almost 9 percent. The drop in the crime rate comes after a violent summer in the southwest side of town. There were more than a dozen shootings and many involved drugs or gangs. In addition, there was an increase in robberies, which went up 13.3 percent.
Residents are glad things are getting better but say they want police more involved. They want to see police walking the streets and getting to know the community.
