A coyote was spotted in Wesley Hills this week.
The creature was seen Wednesday wandering around on a lawn on Lime Kiln Road. Janine Wooten, who owns the home where the animal was seen, recorded a video of the coyote howling on her property.
"He was very comfortable, as if this was his domain. When I came out and when my dog was barking, he was not fazed in the least, so that concerns me," Wooten said.
Coyotes tend to shy away from human contact, but experts say over the years they have become accustomed to being in close proximity to people.
The animal stayed in front of Wooten's house for about an hour, after which he got up and headed down Lime Kiln Road. Wooten says the coyote often takes that route when leaving the area.
Ramapo police say the animal has been spotted by several officers on patrol in recent weeks. However, efforts to chase it away have not worked.
