Couples married over 50 years offer advice on long, happy marriages
Dozens of couples renewed their vows on the steps of Yonkers City Hall on Tuesday.
Mayor Mike Spano officiated as 45 couples celebrated being married for 50 years or more.
One couple celebrating 71 years of marriage shared their secrets to a happy, healthy marriage. "You got to have respect for each other, that's the most important thing as far as I'm concerned," says Jean Mason.
Robert and Margaret Wasiczko, who have been married 65 years, say, "Share each other together. Don't be one-sided. When things get rough just hang in. Just hang in."
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only a 6% of married couples make it half a decade or longer.
