County legislators are grilling Con Edison officials about their readiness for the upcoming winter season.
Legislators say the status quo is not acceptable. Storms in March left tens of thousands of Westchester residents in the dark after trees came down on power lines. Lawmakers want to avoid that from happening again.
Con Ed says it will pay for removing dead trees from some homeowners' properties. Officials say they have also improved its highly criticized communication system during the storms. The company now saying it will rely more on texts and emails instead of phone calls to reach customers.
Con Ed says it has hired 16 new line people in Westchester to help with work on the ground during storms. Officials say they will also rely more on mutual aid instead of bringing in crews from out of state.
Westchester lawmakers vow to keep pressure on Con Ed and NYSEG and hold them accountable.
