Westchester County's Democrats have chosen state Sen. George Latimer to run against Rob Astorino for the job of county executive, but two other candidates say they plan to force a primary vote.
The party says it held off on counting ballots until Friday after its Wednesday night convention.
Latimer received more than 51,000 votes at the convention, according to officials. County Legislator Ken Jenkins received more than 20,000, and David Spano withdrew his name from contention.
But Jenkins and Spano say they plan to force a primary in September.
"What happens now, is it appears that Sen. George Latimer is our party-designated candidate," says Reginald Lafayette, the county Democratic chairman.
A primary vote could see one of the other candidates replace Latimer in the race against Astorino, the incumbent Republican.
"So we will be working hard," Lafayette says.
