A school bus driver in the East Ramapo School District was arrested for allegedly dropping off children on a busy road almost a mile away from their bus stop.
Bus driver Floyd James, 53, was charged with endangering the welfare of children for allegedly ending his bus route early back on Sept. 5. He allegedly dropped off a bus full of students on the side of a busy road. The students were ages 6 through 9 years old, and were from the Cheder Chabad Boys School.
Investigators say the students were dropped off at the intersection of Route 306 and Brick Church Way, but they were supposed to be dropped off down the road on Fessler. Police say the road is too dangerous for kids to walk on.
Officials say it is not clear why James, a contractor for the school bus company, let the kids off his bus.
He has been suspended from his job while the bus company conducts its own investigation.
He is due back in court next month.
