Police in Yonkers arrested a woman after they say her baby was scalded in a bathtub Thursday.

Yolanda Blackwell, 26, is charged with assault for allegedly submerging her son in hot water. The boy, who turns 2 next week, is in intensive care at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with second-degree burns. According to police, the mother and child were visiting relatives at an apartment on Victor Street. Police say a family friend told them the mother went to give the boy a bath after he soiled himself.

Police are still trying to determine if the incident was an accident or if the mother intentionally tried to harm her son. Police are not filing any charges against the occupants of the apartment.
