The owners of a consignment shop are under investigation for allegedly ripping off their customers.
According to its website, the Chappaqua consignment shop Elegant Two is a cozy, high-end boutique that specializes in luxury designers like Chanel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton. Mother-and-daughter owners Babette and Julia Faotto are so popular that a local blog named them Merchants of the Week in 2012.
In recent months, the boutique abruptly moved to Pleasantville. Longtime customer Jill Capocci says she brought jewelry worth $1,400 to the shop last fall and hasn't heard from the owners since. She doesn't know where the jewelry is and says she hasn't received any money for it either. New Castle police say they've received almost a dozen complaints from other customers, but they haven't been able to track down the owners.
News 12 went to visit the store in Pleasantville, but it was closed. There were notes on the front door, a bounced check from a customer, and another note from a customer saying she wanted her money and items.
Police say they are trying to determine if the case should be a civil or criminal case. Right now, they will only say the matter remains under investigation.
