Rep. Pat Ryan (D-18) is demanding a halt to Central Hudson's proposed rate increases. The company intends to raise electric rates by 16% and natural gas rates by 19%.
Ryan had previously urged Central Hudson to cease any rate hikes until billing issues were resolved, leading to the appointment of independent monitors.
Ryan also is advocating against allowing barges on the Hudson River. The U.S. Coast Guard's recent ruling loosening regulations from the Tappan Zee to Albany has raised concerns about the safety implications of unrestricted anchoring in the area. Dutchess County Minority Leader Yvette Valdés Smith also expressed opposition, citing environmental conservation concerns.
