A popular meeting hall in Rockland County went up in flames last night.
Fire officials say the fire broke out at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Route 9W in Congers just before 7 p.m.
It took firefighters less than an hour to knock down the fire. The nearly 100-year-old building was damaged and suffered a partial ceiling collapse. There is also extensive water and smoke damage.
Several people were inside at the time, but they all got out safely. There were no injuries.
Investigators believe a discarded cigarette thrown into dry mulch may have sparked a blaze. It is not considered suspicious.
