Con Edison workers across the city are threatening to begin a strike on Sunday if they can?t settle a contract with the power supplier.

Con Ed representatives did not give any indications of a contingency plan if the 9,000 workers should walk off the job over the upcoming weekend, but they say the managers are ready to handle a strike.

In any case, a spokesperson says the company will not budge on wages or medical costs.

The Utility Workers Union of America says that as far as the contract negotiations are concerned, both sides are ?miles apart? in the talks.

The last time utility workers hit the picket lines was 25 years ago, but since then contract impasse has been a recurring phenomenon. Four years ago, the workers ratified the contract right before the strike deadline.
