A Yonkers company has to pay a massive fine after state officials say it was operating a charity scam.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Thrift Land USA used blue and pink bins to collect clothes from good Samaritians, sold them for a profit and kept most of the money.
Schneiderman says the company made at least $10 million by selling the clothes to buyers in Mexico and other countries from 2013-2014.
The owner of the company, Carl Vella, has to pay a $700,000 settlement.
