A longtime civil rights leader who spent decades fighting for equality in the Hudson Valley has died.
Wilbur Aldridge died Sunday at the age of 80.
The longtime Haverstraw resident served as regional director of the NAACP for 27 years before stepping down from the role in 2025.
Aldridge was widely known throughout the region for his commitment to civil rights, social justice and public service.
Community leaders say his work helped advance equality and create opportunities for countless residents across Rockland County and beyond.
Rockland County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood praised Aldridge's decades of advocacy and leadership.
In a statement, Hood said Aldridge made a lasting difference in Rockland County and throughout the region.
He added that Aldridge's legacy of service, leadership and advocacy will not be forgotten.
