The health care company accused of posting a discriminatory job ad in a local newspaper is apologizing.
The president of Interim Healthcare apologized for an ad in a Rockland County Pennysaver publication for a female nurse that specified "no Haitians."
The company released a statement on its website saying in part, "We value the diversity of our patients and our employees. The ad in the Pennysaver for an LPN is totally unacceptable, and is offensive to us, and we know to all of you. All policy and procedures will be reviewed to assure it will never happen again."
The ad sparked outrage in the West Haverstraw community.
Some local leaders are now calling for an investigation by the state Department of Labor and the attorney general's office.
On Sunday, state Sen. David Carlucci issued a statement saying, "I am outraged at this blatant form of employment discrimination. This company should be ashamed of itself, and Pennysaver should strongly reconsider running any job postings from Interim Healthcare in future publications."
Calls to the Pennysaver's publishers for comment were not returned.
