A husband and wife are dead in an apparent murder-suicide inside a Nyack home, police say.
Officers found the bodies of 52-year-old Jeffrey M. Wright and his 55-year-old wife Anita Lam-Wright inside 290 North Midland Ave. Based on injuries and evidence at the scene, police say Wright killed his wife with a shotgun, then went to another area of the home and killed himself with the same weapon.
Orangetown police say they have not received any previous reports of domestic incidents at the location.
In the wake of the deaths, a community meeting was held Sunday evening at Nyack High School.
Classmates, friends, and family members—including the couple’s teenaged son—attended the gathering.
“He felt very supported. This community, his school, his friends, their parents were very supportive of him and have offered everything that one would want a young surviving victim to receive,” said Elizabeth Santiago, CEO of the New City-based nonprofit Center for Safety & Change.
Nyack Public Schools also released a statement to families confirming the deaths and announcing support services.
“Our immediate priority is to be available to our community students and families of students who are impacted by this tragedy,” the district said.
The high school opened its Global Learning Commons from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday for a comfort gathering. School clinicians and counselors were on hand and will continue to be available throughout today.
