The community of Rye bid a tearful farewell on Saturday to a college sophomore who died suddenly last week while away at school in Virginia.
Marisa Curlen, 20, was found dead in her off-campus bedroom near James Madison University.
Sources say the Rye High School graduate likely died from alcohol poisoning, but that investigators won't know for sure until official toxicology results come back from the medical examiner's office, which could take months.
Family and friends attended a ceremony in her honor on Saturday at Rye Presbyterian Church. They remembered her as a friendly girl, an avid athlete, and a talented dancer.
Her death is the third to strike Rye High School's class of 2013. All of them occurred at college. Foul play was not suspected in any of them.
In lieu of flowers, Curlen's family is asking that people donate to Marisa's favorite charities, including Midnight Run and the Born This Way Foundation.
