Rockland County law enforcement officials and representatives from the NAACP jointly hosted a public forum discussing relations between police and the black community Thursday night.
Spring Valley community activist Virginia Johnti says residents in communities of color and police often have rocky relationships because of a lack of trust on both sides.
Rockland County District Attorney Tom Zugibe organized the event with the local branch of the NAACP.
Spring Valley NAACP President Willie Trotman says police and community relations could change once both sides agree to respect one another.
