Family and friends came together at Ortiz Funeral Home Saturday to honor the life of 17-year-old Sincere Campbell, who was fatally shot in Soundview.

The shooting occurred on Sept. 21 near a neighborhood deli, just steps from his home, leaving his loved ones and the wider community devastated.

“He was a good boy,” said his mother, Ana Vega. “He loved video games, school, basketball, and spending time with friends.”

Campbell’s father, Daryl, echoed those sentiments, calling him an “excellent kid” who stayed out of trouble.

“He was an honor student,” said his aunt, Carrie Maldonado. “He didn’t deserve what happened to him.”

Sincere was described as a hardworking young man with big dreams.

“He had two jobs, wanted to be an engineer,” said his cousin, Jamerere Reeves. Another cousin, Jaylen Taylor, remembered growing up with Sincere as a “magical experience” and shared his cousin’s motto: “Never back down, never give up.”

As the family mourns, the NYPD is still searching for those responsible for the shooting. They urge anyone with information to come forward to help bring justice to Sincere’s family.
