BREAKING: Blizzard Conditions Expected Sunday night into Monday
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard warning for Westchester County. Blizzard conditions will bring whiteout conditions Sunday night through Monday morning.
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and the rest of Westchester County Sunday through Monday morning. Near-blizzard conditions are expected in this area.
Major Travel Delays Expected, Prepare for Power Outages
8 to 14" of snow is expected in the Hudson Valley with the highest totals setting up in Rockland and Westchester County. There is the potential for more than 14" of snow in heavier snow bands, but at this time we expect those highest totals outside of the Hudson Valley.
Wind driven snow will bring scattered power outages Sunday night and Monday. Winds will gust 30 to 40 mph during this time and the weight of the snow could aid in knocking trees and powerlines down.
Major travel delays are expected all day Sunday and Monday. The storm is coming in from the south so this will likely delay flights starting Sunday morning, before the weather deteriorates locally. Conditions improve Monday evening, but the effect on travel likely will linger into Tuesday.
Storm Timing:
Sunday morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered wintry mix. Some roads may be snow covered by noon, but generally light snow is expected in the morning. Conditions deteriorate Sunday after 4PM and blizzard / near blizzard conditions are expected 9PM Sunday through Monday morning.
Stray snow showers could linger into Monday afternoon, but the bulk of the snow from this storm will fall overnight Sunday into Monday morning.
Today's forecast
Pleasant weather is expected today with highs in the mid 40s. A few stray snow showers or rain showers are expected overnight tonight with 1-2" possible in the Upper Hudson Valley.
