Clarkstown police say a woman in her late 80s was killed in a two-car crash that shut down a portion of North Highland Avenue on Saturday.

Investigators say the woman was heading south on North Highland Avenue, also known as Route 9W, and somehow drove her vehicle into the northbound lane where she struck another vehicle.

The one person in the other vehicle was rushed to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to detectives.

The circumstances that led to the crash were not immediately clear.

Route 9W was still closed to traffic, with the exception of those who live on the road, as of Saturday night.
