A Clarkstown officer is going a long way to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease.
Police Officer Andrew Kelly will be lacing up his shoes for the Oil Creek 100-mile trail race in Pennsylvania to raise money and awareness.
The disease took its fatal toll on his wife Colleen Kelly’s father in September 2017. Just nine days later, she lost her mother to dementia.
Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. According to the Alzheimer's Association, every 65 seconds someone in the U.S. develops the disease.
Andrew has been training vigorously for months to support his family and the millions of others dealing with this disease.
"It’s not a race to see who can run the furthest, it’s a race to find a cure so that no more people go through what I've been through,” said Colleen Kelly.
