A Clarkstown police officer has been accused of breaking into a woman's apartment, trying to strangle her and threatening to kill her.
Police in Stamford, Connecticut have charged William Oliver with strangulation, unlawful restraint, burglary, threatening, criminal mischief, interfering with a 911 call and disorderly conduct.
The charges stem from an altercation with his ex-girlfriend last weekend.
According to Clarkstown police officials, the 45-year-old officer has a clean record.
They say Oliver will continue to be paid, but his badge and weapon have been taken away.
News 12 reached out to Oliver's lawyer for a comment, but he declined.
