Beginning this month, all Bridgeport Public School buses will be equipped with stop-arm cameras, Bridgeport city officials announced on Thursday.
Bridgeport is implementing the BusPatrol, a new school bus safety program to combat reckless drivers from illegally passing a school bus.
The announcement comes after a recent study recorded over 10,000 illegal passings in six months during the 2022 academic year.
Sen. Herron Gaston said before the program was approved, funds from the fines would go to the state, but they are now going to address public safety and educational programs in Bridgeport.
Fines could go up to $450.
