Overall crime rates across the city have dropped for a 21st straight year.
According to end of year statistics, the NYPD reported slightly more than 500 murders, which is a nearly 5-percent drop compared to last year and the third lowest total since records have been kept.
The FDNY also reports 64 deadly fires so far this year, which will be the second lowest in history if it remains the same until Jan. 1.
