Some citizens are rallying against plans to demolish part of the shuttered Orange County Government Center in Goshen.

The building has been vacant for nearly four years because of damage it sustained in hurricanes Irene and Lee.

Rally organizers say it is a waste of taxpayers' money to build a replacement. "Every study that the county has made to date has shown that the building is structurally sound, has no mold problems, and simply needs to have the roof repaired. In fact, FEMA found only $500,000 worth of damage resulting from the storms, and most of that was from the county's negligence," says organizer Vincent Ferri.

Ferri is one of three people who have filed suit against County Executive Steve Neuhaus and Legislator Leigh Benton to try and save the historic building, which was designed by Paul Rudolph.
