Chimney fire in Somers prompts warning from Somers firefighters

Fire officials say they were called to Primrose Street just after 5:30 p.m. after the people who lived there started hearing strange noises coming from the chimney and saw embers coming out of the top.

The Somers Fire Department is warning homeowners to clean their chimneys before you use them this season.
One local family learned that the hard way on Black Friday.
Fire officials say they were called to Primrose Street just after 5:30 p.m. after the people who lived there started hearing strange noises coming from the chimney and saw embers coming out of the top.
Firefighters were able to put out the flames and remove what was burning inside the chimney in about two hours.
Fire officials say this is the time they start getting called to many chimney fires.
