One small voice was heard loud and clear at the East Ramapo school board meeting Tuesday evening.
The school board held its first meeting with new state-appointed monitor Dennis Walcott at the table.
He heard from many people in the raucous crowd, including 11-year-old singer Kamila Magana, who made an impassioned appeal to the board to return art and music to district schools.
Magana, serenaded the board members with her version of the "Star-Spangled Banner." She insisted that music classes or not, her voice would not be silenced.
"The board will not stop me or the people in this room," she said.
The sentiment was echoed by parents, who seemed intent on making sure Walcott knew they were not happy with the status quo on the board.
Many of the parents in the crowd say they will wait and see if Walcott can bring any changes to the embattled district.
