Members of the town board are now calling on Chester Highway Superintendent John Reilly to resign over the allegations against him in the shooting of a DoorDash delivery driver.

Authorities say Reilly, 48, asked the victim to leave his property on May 2 before he fired at least three rounds from a .45 caliber handgun, striking the victim once in the back as the victim tried to leave and was inside his car.

Officials say town employees have received threats because of the highly publicized incident. Many have been calling for Reilly to be removed.

In a letter from the town board, members state they do not have legal authority to remove him from the position. However, they wrote, "…the town board is asking Mr. Reilly to resign immediately so that others may be permitted to carry out the job…"

The Orange County district attorney is now part of the case.
